Director: Advocate Hendrik Viljoen
Hendrik was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa in 1993. His educational background includes the qualifications B Juris, LLB and LLM. His Master's degree in Law focused on Insurance Law and the role of the Ombudsman in the insurance industry. He has more than 30 years' experience in insurance, working inter alia as a claims manager for a large insurer and a legal officer for the statutory MMF. In 1999 he joined the office of the Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance and worked there for 10 years. He was appointed as the Deputy Ombudsman in 2007. In 2010 he founded Obiter Consulting to provide a specialist consulting service to the short-term insurance industry.
Advocate Viljoen currently serves as the Internal Arbitrator for Old Mutual Insure Ltd and also consults for other major South African short-term insurers.
